My Background
Born in February 1970, Dennis J. Douglass has dedicated over 33 years to the world of woodworking and the building trades. Launching his career right out of high school, Dennis quickly established himself as a skilled builder and designer, focusing on residential and light commercial projects. His commitment to excellence has earned him numerous awards at the local, state, and even national levels.
Dennis holds multiple certifications in both residential and commercial building, along with expertise in land use laws, shoreland zoning, and wastewater management. He is a Certified Building Inspector, a Code Enforcement Officer, and a Licensed Plumbing Inspector. Throughout his career, he has played a pivotal role in the design and construction of over 1,000 homes across the New England area, with a specialization in coastal and island construction.
In 2023, driven by his lifelong passion for woodworking and architectural design, Dennis ventured into the creation of stunning driftwood sculptures. His debut piece was selected for the prestigious Boothbay Region Art Foundation’s “Art in ME 2024” Exhibit, marking a significant milestone in his artistic journey.
Operating from his home studio in Richmond, Maine, Dennis collaborates closely with his wonderful wife, Melissa Douglass, and their family, bringing each driftwood creation to life with meticulous attention to detail and creativity. With a commitment to both artistry and craftsmanship, Dennis continues to inspire with his unique Driftwood Creations.
My Helper
Mars Bonfire Vear is 25 years old and lives in Richmond, Maine with his Mom, Melissa, and his Bonus Dad, Me. Mars loves working in the wood shop, learning vicariously about driftwood and design by watching as I cut, sand, mold, scale, burn, create. He assists when, and as much as, he can and the rest of the time he plays supervisor making sure we are focusing on the task at hand.

I’m Melissa, the business manager and art assistant, handling the day-to-day operations and supporting the creative process. Together, we run Double D Designs with a shared commitment to quality craftsmanship and innovative design.
Having been together for over five years and married for two, we’ve built a strong partnership that fuels our work and drives our business forward. Whether it’s creating stunning driftwood art or designing custom CAD drawings, we put our hearts into every project, ensuring each one reflects our dedication to craft and creativity."
